Description
Houston County was operating the oldest jail in Minnesota and the historic jail was no longer meeting their needs. County officials hired Klein McCarthy Architects to design a new 82-bed facility. The new jail needed modern technology that fit into the historic nature of the downtown area, including the 1883 courthouse.
Klein McCarthy chose SteelCell of North America to provide modular detention units because of the ability to install custom, prefabricated units before the county’s harsh winters set in.
In just 15 months, we partnered to design and provide detention cells, modular single and group shower units, modular janitor closets, and a combination of both units to meet the needs of the facility.
Because the Houston County Justice Center is so unique, it was awarded Facility of the Month in Correctional News.
